Heart Butte Reservoir (Lake Tschida) offers a convenient boat launch at Johnson Ford in Grant County, North Dakota, located approximately 15 miles south of Glen Ullin on Highway 49. This access point features a barrier-free boat ramp and is one of 10 launch sites around the 142-foot-deep reservoir created by Heart Butte Dam on the Heart River. The site provides a practical entry point for kayakers and canoeists looking to explore the region's primary recreational water body.
The reservoir is well-developed for water recreation, with six primitive campgrounds featuring wells and vault toilets available nearby. While there is no on-site marina or boat rental, the area offers amenities including RV hookups, lodging, restaurants, and bait & tackle shops in the vicinity. The calm, expansive waters make it suitable for recreational paddling and fishing, with the west end being particularly popular among anglers.
