About This Access Site
The Helena River Park (East) in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas, provides excellent access to the mighty Mississippi River for kayakers, canoeists, and boaters. The park features a spacious 60-foot boat ramp, one of the largest public access points on the lower Mississippi.

The Mississippi River is a vast, powerful waterway, stretching over 1,900 miles from its headwaters to the Gulf of Mexico. At this location, the river has an average flow of over 685,000 cubic feet per second and an average velocity of 11 feet per second, so paddlers should exercise caution and be prepared for strong currents. The river's total elevation drop of 1,467 feet creates an average gradient of 0.8 feet per mile, contributing to the river's power.

The park's boardwalk overlook offers a unique vantage point to take in the sights and history of the Mississippi River. Paddlers can launch directly from the boat ramp and explore the waterway, keeping an eye out for the variety of boats and vessels traversing this major commercial shipping route. Whether you're an experienced boater or a casual paddler, the Helena River Park (East) provides excellent access to one of America's most iconic rivers.
