About This Access Site
**Location & Facilities**
The Highway 1 Bridge boat ramp is located in Lugoff, Kershaw County, South Carolina, positioned directly beneath the US Highway 1/Highway 601 Bridge. This access point features a one-lane carry-down boat ramp with a dirt parking lot, making it suitable for kayaks, canoes, and smaller motorized vessels.

**River Character & Paddling**
The Wateree River at this location transitions between two distinct sections: the upper reach below Lake Wateree Dam features small shoals as the river crosses the fall line, while downstream stretches become increasingly flat water. The river is characterized by its scenic, forested setting with a sinuous channel and sandy bars that offer camping opportunities during multi-day paddles at appropriate water levels. This section of the Wateree provides excellent opportunities for solitude, winding through the river valley with the floodplain visible to the west. Paddlers should plan accordingly for the varying water conditions and use caution in the shoal areas near the dam.
