This boat ramp provides access to Bayou Lafourche in Thibodaux, located in Lafourche Parish, approximately 35 miles northwest of New Orleans. The site is easily reached via U.S. Highway 90 west, exiting onto LA Highway 1 north toward Thibodaux. The access point offers convenient launching for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats looking to explore the bayou.
Bayou Lafourche is now fully navigable for recreational boating following the removal of a weir in Thibodaux in 2021, allowing paddlers to travel through the entire waterway. The bayou extends from Thibodaux southward toward the Gulf of Mexico, passing through numerous communities and offering paddlers the opportunity to experience Louisiana's unique Cajun bayou ecosystem. Note that a water gate in nearby Lockport helps manage saltwater intrusion during low tide periods, which may affect water conditions seasonally.
For trip planning, paddlers should be aware that this area experiences tidal influences, particularly in the lower sections of the bayou. The site's proximity to major highways (U.S. 90 and LA Highway 1) makes it an accessible starting point for both day trips and longer bayou explorations.
