The Highway 172 access point (Mustang Creek Boat Ramp #5) is located one mile south of Ganado and provides a convenient entry to Lake Texana, a 11,000+ acre reservoir on the Lavaca River. The ramp features a 2-lane improved concrete launch suitable for kayaks, canoes, and motorboats. This is a free, year-round access point operated by the Lavaca-Navidad River Authority (LNRA), making it an affordable option for paddlers exploring the lake.
The surrounding area offers scenic oak woodlands typical of the Lavaca-Navidad river bottomlands, and the site is designated as a birding location (Stop #018 on the Texana Birding Loop). From here, paddlers have access to the expansive lake system with multiple recreational opportunities. For questions about current conditions or occasional maintenance closures, contact the LNRA at (361) 782-5456. The LNRA also manages 10 boat ramps throughout Lake Texana, providing alternative access points if needed.
