The Highway 66 boat ramp provides convenient access to the Manistee River near Fife Lake in Kalkaska County. Located about 2.5 miles south of Fife Lake on the east (left) side of M-66, this access point is situated within a rest area. Follow signs from the parking area to reach the river launch at the south end—note that parking should be kept clear of the access area during boat loading and unloading.
This section of the Manistee River is known for its excellent steelhead, chinook, and coho salmon fishery, making it popular with both paddlers and anglers. The site provides a good starting point for downstream paddling toward the Highway 55 Bridge and beyond. Before launching, paddlers should check current water conditions and flow rates, as the Manistee's character can vary seasonally. Contact the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for information about specific water conditions, any restrictions, and facility amenities at this access point.
