The Hillside National Wildlife Refuge boat ramp provides access to Parker Bayou, a small, slow-moving waterway in Bee Lake, Holmes County, Mississippi. This access point is well-suited for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorized boats.
The boat ramp is located approximately 16 miles north of Yazoo City along Highway 49E. Parking is available near the launch site. Boaters should note that all Hillside National Wildlife Refuge lands, including roads, parking areas, and boat ramps, are closed from 1.5 hours after sunset until 4:00 AM. Dragging or driving boats over the levees is prohibited, and only trailered boats may be launched at the cement boat ramps.
The refuge itself offers excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and other outdoor recreation. Visitors can explore the diverse habitats that support hundreds of species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. However, there is no staffed office on the refuge, so boaters should plan accordingly and familiarize themselves with the current regulations before their visit.
