The Hinckley access site provides boat ramp access to the Kennebec River in Fairfield, Somerset County. This hard-surface ramp (20' wide × 24' long with a 13% grade) accommodates trailered boats and is suitable for kayaks, canoes, and small motorboats. The site is locally owned and maintained, offering 8 parking spaces for rigs and 6 for vehicles. Note that there is no float system at this launch, and facilities are limited—no restrooms are available on-site.
The Kennebec River at this location is Maine's third-largest river, flowing southward through the central part of the state after consolidating flows from lakes in north-central Maine. Paddlers should be aware of the river's significant flow and be prepared accordingly. Given the river's size and the proximity to Waterville-Winslow and other towns downstream, water conditions can vary seasonally, so check current conditions before launching. This access point is a good option for those looking to explore this major river corridor in the mid-state region.
