About This Access Site
**Access & Facilities**
HL1 Lake is a 12-acre public access point located in the Peabody Wildlife Management Area near Cool Springs in Ohio County, Kentucky. A public boat ramp provides launch access for kayaks, canoes, and motorboats. Parking is available in designated areas only—do not block gates or access roads. This is an active wildlife management area, so be aware that hunting occurs seasonally; firearms cannot be discharged within 100 yards of the boat ramp.

**Wildlife & Paddling Conditions**
The area is rich with wildlife viewing opportunities, including bald eagles that hunt nearby and abundant waterfowl in the sloughs and wetlands. A boat ramp located downstream also provides access to the Pond River, which experiences a white bass run around early April. Interior access to the broader WMA is primarily walk-in or boat-in from the Pond River. Kentucky Fish and Wildlife continues to improve access, signage, and parking, so check their website and social media for the latest updates on conditions and amenities.
