About This Access Site
The Hoonah boat ramp provides direct access to the Pacific Ocean, Icy Strait, and Port Frederick. This site is well-suited for kayakers, canoeists, and small boat users looking to explore the scenic waterways around Chichagof Island. The ramp is located in the town of Hoonah, a coastal community in southeast Alaska's Tongass National Forest.

Paddlers can launch directly into the protected waters of Port Frederick, which offer miles of shoreline to explore by kayak or canoe. The Icy Strait and open ocean beyond provide more exposed conditions for experienced boaters. Nearby hiking trails, cabins, and other recreation areas in Tongass National Forest are also accessible by water. Those arriving by cruise ship can easily reach the boat ramp by following a 1.5-mile walk from the Adventure Dock. Visitors can also fly into Hoonah's small airport or arrange a charter flight to access the site.
