About This Access Site
Hugo Lake Boat Ramp, located in the southeast corner of the lake off Lakeside Ridge Drive in Choctaw County, offers a well-maintained two-lane concrete ramp with dock access and paved parking. This facility provides convenient access to Hugo Lake's 18,000-acre reservoir on the Kiamichi River, a large river (Stream Order 6) with an average flow of 2,402 cubic feet per second. The southern 8,000 acres near the dam are clear of obstructions, making this area ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating.

Paddlers and anglers will find excellent recreational opportunities here, with the lake being particularly known for quality crappie fishing in spring. The nearby Virgil Point Campground offers 51 modern campsites with full amenities including restrooms and showers. Additional primitive camping options are available at the north end of the lake near Messer through the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. Hiking trails and other recreational facilities are accessible within the Hugo Lake area, which is jointly managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.
