About This Access Site
Hugo Lake's main boat ramp is located in the southeast corner of the lake off Lakeside Ridge Drive and features a two-lane concrete ramp with a dock and paved parking—ideal for launching kayaks, canoes, and larger boats. The south 8,000 acres of the lake near the dam are clear of obstructions, making this area well-suited for recreational paddling and watersports. The ramp is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of the broader Hugo Lake recreation area.

The Kiamichi River that feeds Hugo Lake is a substantial waterway with an average flow of 2,402 cubic feet per second and a moderate gradient of 7 feet per mile, creating a large river environment suitable for various paddling skill levels. Beyond the main ramp, ODWC maintains two additional boat ramps with primitive camping at the north end of the lake near Messer for those seeking quieter access points. Nearby amenities include Virgil Point Campground with 51 modern campsites and facilities, plus a group camp available for reservation—making Hugo Lake an excellent base for multi-day paddling trips.
