About This Access Site
Hunter Cove is the primary boat access point on the eastern end of Harlan County Lake, Nebraska's second-largest lake at 13,000 acres. Located near Republican City, the facility features a concrete boat ramp suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and motorboats. The ramp becomes operational around the 1,932-foot water level mark. A fish cleaning station with running water is conveniently located near the entrance, and two full-service marinas operate on the lake's east end for additional support services.

The surrounding Hunter Cove Park offers excellent amenities for day-use and overnight visitors, including 150 campsites (many with electric hookups), restrooms, showers, and potable water throughout. The park is pet-friendly and allows tent camping. From Highway 80, take Highway 183 south to Alma, then Highway 136 east, followed by Berrigan Road to Road B—the park entrance is approximately 1 mile south on Road B.

Harlan County Lake is popular year-round for fishing, boating, hiking, and wildlife viewing. For reservations or additional information, contact the facility at 308-799-2105. Note that the site is not ADA accessible.

Walleye, wipers, white bass, northern pike and channel catfish are the most sought-after fish species. Game animals include pheasant, quail, prairie chicken, white-tailed and mule deer, turkey, waterfowl, rabbit and squirrel.

The lake offers a variety of hiking trails of varying length and style, as well as one equestrian trail a short drive away. An off-road vehicle trail is located in nearby Republican City.Facilities

Natural Features
Located in south central Nebraska, lands surrounding Harlan County Lake are primarily mixed grass prairie land. The campground is mostly forested, offering ample shade during the warmth of summer.

The Republican River Valley was once occupied by one of the greatest concentrations of buffalo on the Great Plains and was a favored hunting ground for the Pawnee, Sioux, Cheyenne, and Arapaho Indian tribes.
