About This Access Site
Indian Camp Access offers a concrete boat ramp for launching onto the Salt River near New London in Ralls County. Located north of New London via Highway 61 and Route O east, this day-use facility provides straightforward access to a significant waterway. The site features a single-lane concrete ramp suitable for kayaks, canoes, and motorboats. Note that camping is not permitted at this location, though nearby Mark Twain Lake offers campground facilities with full hookups.

The Salt River at this point is a major stream (classified as Stream Order 8, comparable to the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers) with substantial flow averaging 1,291 cubic feet per second and a current moving at approximately 7 feet per second. Paddlers should be prepared for moderate water velocity and an average gradient of 17 feet per mile. From Indian Camp, boaters can paddle downstream toward the Mississippi River confluence (527 miles away) or upstream toward Mark Twain Lake. The river's significant flow and size make it best suited for experienced paddlers and boaters comfortable with moving water conditions.
