About This Access Site
The Izembek Lagoon Observation/Launch site provides access to the Pacific Ocean in the remote Aleutians East Borough of Alaska. This boat ramp is located within the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge, a 320,893-acre protected area home to diverse wetland habitats and abundant wildlife.

Kayakers, canoeists, and small boat owners can use this launch site to access Izembek Lagoon, a large coastal ecosystem with extensive eelgrass beds that provide critical habitat for migratory geese and other waterfowl. The lagoon is reached from the nearby community of Cold Bay, which is only accessible by air or water. Launch facilities are basic, with no services or amenities on-site. Boaters should come prepared for remote, exposed conditions on the open Pacific.

While this site offers scenic access to a unique Alaskan landscape, paddlers and boaters should be aware of the refuge's wilderness designation and plan accordingly. Recreational use is permitted, but there may be restrictions or additional considerations when visiting the Izembek Wilderness. Contacting the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge staff is recommended to learn about current conditions and any special rules or considerations.
