Jamestown Reservoir offers excellent paddling and boating opportunities with seven boat ramps positioned around its 2,095-acre surface. Located 2 miles north of Jamestown in central North Dakota, this reservoir spans 45 miles of shoreline across 2,492 land acres, making it a substantial destination for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters. The Lakeside Marina Boat Ramp (2944-2966 E Lakeside Rd) is a primary access point with nearby amenities and services.
The area provides comprehensive recreational facilities to support a full day or multi-day visit. Amenities include two campgrounds with 335 total campsites (110 with RV hookups), two swimming beaches, picnic areas with tables and shelters, two dump stations, and a boat rental concession. Over two miles of asphalt trails on the east side offer walking and biking opportunities for non-water activities. The reservoir's calm, protected waters make it well-suited for paddlers of all skill levels, while its size accommodates various watercraft.
Plan ahead by contacting Lakeside Marina or checking conditions before launching. The area is busiest during warm-weather months, and paddlers should be prepared for open-water conditions across the full width of the reservoir.
