About This Access Site
The John R Bettis Landing provides convenient public access to Goose Creek via a well-maintained two-lane boat ramp with a courtesy dock and ample paved parking (50 vehicle/trailer spaces). Located off Mabelene Road adjacent to Trident Technical College campus on Rivers Avenue, this free access point is easy to find and requires no fees or reservations. The facility is maintained by the City of Charleston.

Paddlers should note that a short paddle to the right from the launch leads to a dam that separates the impounded upper section from the tidal flow of Goose Creek downstream. Goose Creek is a substantial stream—classified as a large river with an average flow of 76 cubic feet per second and a moderate gradient of 45 feet per mile, making it suitable for various skill levels depending on which section you explore. The creek ultimately flows toward Charleston Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean, offering paddlers options for both freshwater and tidal paddling experiences.
