The De Motte access point on the Kankakee River provides a convenient launch location for paddlers and boaters exploring this 12-mile stretch of river managed by Kankakee FWA. The facility features a boat ramp and is part of a property offering diverse paddling opportunities, including access to the Yellow River and numerous ponds and wetlands. This is an excellent starting point for recreational kayaking, canoeing, and fishing for smallmouth bass, channel catfish, walleye, and Northern pike.
There are no launch fees at this access site, making it an affordable option for day trips. The next access point is approximately 4.4 miles downstream near Hebron. Paddlers should be aware that the Kankakee Dam is located west of this area and requires a challenging 3/4-mile portage on river right; plan accordingly if attempting multi-day trips downstream. The surrounding area offers picnicking and pet-friendly amenities, making it suitable for family outings.
