About This Access Site
This boat ramp provides access to Kanopolis Lake and the Smoky Hill River in Ellsworth County near Yankee Run. The site is part of Kanopolis State Park's Horsethief Area, located on the eastern shore of the 3,500-acre reservoir. The ramp accommodates various watercraft including kayaks, canoes, and motorboats, making it suitable for paddlers of different skill levels and interests.

The surrounding area offers excellent recreational opportunities beyond paddling. The Horsethief Area features camping facilities, an amphitheater, and extensive hiking trails that extend into the nearby Smoky Hill Wildlife Area. Anglers will find the lake and wildlife area well-stocked with fish. If exploring beyond the main lake, paddlers can access the Smoky Hill River itself. The area also features natural attractions like Faris Caves, historic pioneer-era caverns carved into the landscape northwest of the wildlife area.

This access point is convenient for day trips and extended outings, with full park amenities available at the Horsethief Area. The proximity to Fort Harker Museum and other local historical sites in Ellsworth and Kanopolis makes this a good base for combining water recreation with cultural exploration of the American West heritage.
