About This Access Site
Kickapoo Park in Oakwood offers convenient access to the scenic Middle Fork Vermillion River, a designated National Scenic River. The park features a concrete boat ramp with shallow water conditions, making it relatively easy to launch and take out. This is a popular access point, especially for shorter float trips, so expect congestion during peak times—particularly near the takeout area where tubers and day-use visitors congregate.

The park provides full amenities including restroom facilities and picnic areas, making it suitable for a full day of recreation. Canoe and kayak rentals are available through Kickapoo Adventures, along with shuttle service to downstream takeout points like Kennekuk County Park (approximately 5.5 miles downriver). The park also features an environmental education center and historic Bunker Hill area if you want to explore beyond paddling. Note that electric motors only are permitted on the park's lakes, and during low water periods, paddlers may prefer the Salt Fork/Vermillion River as an alternative.
