Kingsbury Fish & Wildlife Area provides boat access to Tamarack Lake via a launch ramp at **parking area 5A**, located at the end of East Hupp Road. This is a scenic natural area managed for wildlife viewing, particularly Sandhill Cranes, swans, and waterfowl, making it ideal for paddlers interested in birdwatching alongside their paddling.
**Motor Restrictions:** Tamarack Lake is restricted to **electric motors only (maximum 12-volt)**—no gas motors are permitted on the lake. This makes it a quieter environment suitable for kayaking, canoeing, and wildlife observation. Note that the facility also provides access to the Kankakee River at a separate ramp (parking area 5G), where gas motors are allowed.
The area includes shoreline fishing access along drainage ditches and the Kankakee River system. A newly constructed ADA-accessible fishing pier on Tamarack Lake provides additional amenities for visitors. Check with the Kingsbury Fish & Wildlife Area office for current conditions, any seasonal restrictions, and detailed parking/facility information before your visit.
