Located 2.5 miles west of Humboldt in Richardson County, Kirkmans Cove Lake offers a convenient boat ramp with a short access trail for launching your own vessel or renting. This 160-acre lake permits boating at speeds up to 35 mph and is suitable for a variety of water activities. A Nebraska Natural Resources District (NNRD) vehicle permit is required to access the park during the May-September season.
The surrounding 511-acre recreation area, opened in 1988, provides ample amenities beyond water recreation. Anglers will find good fishing opportunities, while the park offers camping (both RV and tent), hiking trails, a swimming beach, and a 9-hole golf course. Note that NRD staff monitor the swimming beach for toxic algae during the season. The well-developed facility makes it an accessible option for kayakers, canoeists, and motorized boaters seeking a full day of recreation.
