About This Access Site
The Klutina Lake boat ramp provides public access to the Klutina River, a large, headwater stream in the Chugach Mountains of Alaska. The boat launch is located on the south side of the river, east of the Richardson Highway around Mile 104.9. This access point requires high-clearance vehicles, and 4-wheel drive is recommended due to the unpaved Klutina Lake Road.

The Klutina River is a substantial waterway, measuring over 65 miles long with a total drop of 2,506 feet in elevation. As a 6th order stream, it has a large drainage area of 874 square miles and an average gradient of 38.3 feet per mile. The river and its tributaries are popular for trophy-sized salmon fishing, though boating conditions can be quite challenging, especially upstream of the Richardson Highway bridge. Paddlers and small boaters should exercise caution on this remote, wilderness river.
