About This Access Site
Knight Park in Otis is the primary public boat launch for the Salmon River and a popular access point for kayakers, canoeists, and small to medium-sized boats. The facility features a paved boat ramp, parking for vehicles and boat trailers, and vault restrooms. Day-use only; overnight camping is not permitted. This is an active put-in for both recreational paddlers and anglers exploring the lower Salmon River.

The Salmon River is a substantial waterway—a major river system draining over 12,000 square miles with an average flow exceeding 13,000 cubic feet per second. At this access point near the river mouth, expect tidal influence and saltwater conditions typical of the Oregon coast estuary. The river's average velocity of 5+ feet per second and gradient of 23 feet per mile indicate moderate current, particularly during high flow periods. Paddlers should check tide tables and weather conditions before launching, as the river transitions to saltwater near this location.

Knight Park's location also provides access to nearby coastal recreation areas, including Siletz Bay National Wildlife Refuge and the Cascade Head hiking trail managed by the Nature Conservancy. The park serves as a gateway for exploring both river and estuary environments along Oregon's central coast.
