La Plata City Lake

La Plata City Lake offers a dedicated boat ramp for paddlers and boaters seeking access to this 81-acre reservoir located 2½ miles east of La Plata via State Highway 156 to Leopard Avenue (approximately ½ mile south). The ramp provides convenient launching for kayaks, canoes, and electric-motor boats. Note that the area is closed to public use from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. daily, though boat launching and landing are permitted 24 hours a day where allowed.

The lake is well-suited for recreational fishing and paddling, with populations of black bass and catfish. Camping facilities are available on-site with options for both full-hookup sites ($15) and primitive sites ($7), making it convenient for day trips or overnight excursions. A trout stamp is required if you plan to keep any trout (5 per day limit), and fishing supplies can be purchased at the park's concessions. The relatively calm, contained nature of this city reservoir makes it accessible for paddlers of varying skill levels.
