West Ashtabula Crossing is a two-lane boat launch located on the west side of Lake Ashtabula, positioned at the west end of the 118th Avenue SE Bridge mid-lake. This is one of seven maintained boat ramps around Lake Ashtabula, making it a convenient access point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboaters. The facility includes a fishing pier and fish cleaning station, with drinking water and restroom facilities available on-site.
Be aware that some gravel travel is required to reach this boat ramp. The surrounding area offers camping with picnic tables and fire pits, plus a nearby playground and swimming area, making it a good choice for day trips or overnight outings. As part of the Baldhill Dam recreation area in eastern North Dakota's prairie pothole country, Lake Ashtabula provides ample paddling opportunities with access to multiple areas of the lake from various launch points.
