West Ashtabula Crossing is a public boat launch facility located on the west side of Lake Ashtabula, positioned at the west end of the 118th Avenue SE Bridge near Valley City. This is one of seven maintained boat ramps around the lake, offering a convenient mid-lake access point. The ramp is a two-lane launch, and nearby amenities include a fishing pier and fish cleaning station. Note that some gravel travel may be required to reach this ramp.
Lake Ashtabula is a multipurpose reservoir in eastern North Dakota's prairie pothole country, offering ample opportunity for kayaking, canoeing, and motorboating. The surrounding recreation area provides access to drinking water and restroom facilities. Paddlers should be aware that this is one of several launch options around the lake—if you encounter conditions that don't work at this location, alternatives like Eggerts Landing (with all-pavement access) and Katie Olson Landing are available nearby. Camping, swimming areas, and additional services are located throughout the Ashtabula Lake recreation area.
