Located on the north shore near Dunn Center, the Lake Ilo boat ramp provides convenient access to this scenic 1,000-acre refuge lake. The ramp is primitive but functional, positioned immediately west of Lake Ilo Park with a picnic area nearby. This is a good launching point for kayakers, canoeists, and small motorboats, though note that all motors are restricted to idle speed only to protect the wildlife refuge environment.
The lake supports popular game fish including northern pike, yellow perch, carp, and bluegill, with shoreline fishing open year-round. An accessible fishing pier is available at the park. Be prepared for variable conditions—the lake can develop whitecaps in windy weather, and shallow areas exist, particularly on the southeast shore. Check the refuge website for current boat ramp maintenance schedules, as spring and summer closures may occur.
**Important:** Not all areas of Lake Ilo National Wildlife Refuge are open to public use. Consult refuge maps available at kiosks near the park and boat ramp to understand access restrictions and protected areas before launching.
