Lake Jem Park offers a convenient public access point to the Apopka-Beauclair Canal (known locally as the A-B Canal) in Tavares. The facility features a single paved boat ramp with gravel parking for approximately 20 boat trailers. This is a no-fee access point operated by Lake County Parks and Trails Division, open dawn to dusk. The ramp is well-maintained and considered launch-friendly for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats of various sizes.
From this location, paddlers can explore the Apopka-Beauclair Canal, which connects to the wild north shore of Lake Apopka and provides passage to the Harris Chain of Lakes. Originally dredged in 1888, the canal serves as the primary water route for accessing these scenic and ecologically significant areas. Note that the facility has minimal amenities, so paddlers should plan accordingly. For more information, contact the Lake County Parks and Trails Division at (352) 253-4948.
