Lake Kemp offers access to a 15,590-acre reservoir on the Wichita River north of Seymour, Texas (off US 183). Seven boat ramps are available across three toll gate entrances around the lake, with gate fees of $15 per person. The Moonshine gate ramp is the most reliable option, remaining usable at lower water levels when other ramps become non-functional. Most ramps are inaccessible when the lake drops three feet or more below normal elevation, so check current water levels before your trip.
The lake has a maximum depth of 53 feet and is suitable for small to medium-sized boats, kayaks, and canoes. The primary ramp on this site is located on the east side of the causeway bridge. Nearby Lake Arrowhead State Park offers camping facilities for those planning multi-day trips. Given the lake's size and depth, conditions can vary significantly depending on water levels and weather, making it advisable to call ahead during periods of low water.
