About This Access Site
The Lake Mattamuskeet Boat Ramp provides access to the expansive Lake Mattamuskeet, located within the Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge in Hyde County, North Carolina. This boat launch is well-suited for kayakers, canoeists, and small powerboats, as the lake itself is quite shallow, generally only accessible to smaller craft.

The boat ramp is situated on the west side of the lake, at the intersection of Piney Woods Road and Turnpike Road. It offers a small boat launch area and dock, with basic, primitive parking available. Boating on the refuge is permitted from March 1 through October 31 only.

Lake Mattamuskeet is a unique and scenic destination, covering over 40,000 acres and providing important habitat for migratory waterfowl and other wildlife. Paddlers and boaters can explore the lake's calm waters and observe the diverse flora and fauna of the Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge. Those seeking a more immersive experience may also want to consider visiting the nearby Swanquarter National Wildlife Refuge, which offers additional opportunities for wildlife viewing and exploration.
