About This Access Site
Lake Overholser is Oklahoma City's oldest reservoir, built in 1919 and covering 1,500 surface acres with an average depth of 6 feet (13 feet maximum). The lake connects to nearby Hefner Lake via canal and offers multiple boat ramp access points on the east, south, and southwest shores. This makes it a convenient launching point for kayakers, canoeists, and recreational boaters in the Oklahoma City area.

The site features practical amenities including boat ramps, tending docks, and a covered fishing pier. Paddlers should note that swimming is prohibited on the lake. The RIVERSPORT boathouse on the east shore provides additional access and facilities for kayaking and paddleboarding, and also offers entry to the North Canadian River and Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge.

**Important:** City and state permits are required for boating activities. Operating hours are generally 5:00 am - 11:00 pm, though permit holders may access the site outside these hours while actively engaged in permitted activities. Plan your visit accordingly and ensure you have the necessary permits before launching.
