About This Access Site
Lake Pleasant offers paddlers and boaters excellent access to a major waterway with 114 miles of scenic shoreline. The main entrance features a robust 10-lane boat ramp with parking for 200 vehicles, located two miles north of State Route 74 off Castle Hot Springs Road. A secondary 4-lane ramp at the north entrance provides alternative access, and walk-in paddling access is available daily. This is an ideal location for launching kayaks, canoes, and rental pontoon boats.

The Agua Fria River feeding Lake Pleasant is a significant waterway—a major river system with a 14,262 square-mile drainage area and an average flow of nearly 109 cubic feet per second. The river descends over 4,200 feet across its 130-mile length, creating varied water conditions. Paddlers should be prepared for a moderately steep gradient and moderate current velocities. Lake Pleasant itself provides calmer conditions suitable for recreational paddling, while upstream sections of the Agua Fria may appeal to more experienced paddlers seeking moving water.

The site is free to use for day-use only. Check with park management (602-867-5400) for current access conditions and seasonal restrictions, as motorized access to certain areas has required special arrangements in the past.
