The Fremont boat ramp provides convenient access to Lake Poygan via Alder Creek in Winnebago County. Lake Poygan is a large, shallow lake covering approximately 14,024 acres with a maximum depth of 11 feet, making it well-suited for kayaking, canoeing, and recreational boating. The lake is known for excellent fishing opportunities, particularly for walleye, perch, bluegill, and largemouth bass, though paddlers visit year-round for leisurely exploration.
From this access point, paddlers can explore the main lake body or venture into the connected creek systems, including Willow Creek and Pumpkinseed Creek. The Poygan Marsh Wildlife Area on the lake's west shore is also accessible by water and offers scenic paddling through marsh environments. Given the lake's shallow profile, be mindful of water levels and watch for submerged obstacles. Multiple public boat landings exist around Lake Poygan, so you have options if conditions vary at your chosen launch site.
