About This Access Site
Lake Sakakawea State Park offers convenient public boat access to one of North Dakota's largest water bodies. Located just outside Riverdale off Highway 200 in Mercer County, the park features two boat ramps: a multi-lane ramp on the west side and a single-lane ramp on the southeast side. Courtesy docks are available at both launch points, along with bathroom facilities and a fish cleaning station, making this a well-equipped access point for day-use recreation.

Lake Sakakawea is a massive reservoir spanning 178 miles in length with 1,340 miles of scenic shoreline, providing paddlers and boaters with extensive exploration opportunities. The expansive water body and multiple access points make it ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating. The park area is very popular for day-use recreation and offers excellent facilities. Note that water conditions can vary seasonally and after heavy rain or flood events, which may temporarily affect ramp usability—it's advisable to check current conditions before your visit.
