About This Access Site
Sand Harbor offers excellent access to Lake Tahoe's east shore via two wave-protected double boat ramps with docks and adjacent parking. This is a popular launch point for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats, making it ideal for exploring the Nevada side of the lake. The facility operates daily from 6 AM to 8 PM and features a paved picnic area with tables. Note that all parking is first-come, first-served, and spaces fill quickly during summer peak hours (especially 11 AM–3 PM on weekends), so plan to arrive early.

Before launching, be aware that watercraft inspections are required to protect Lake Tahoe from aquatic invasive species like Quagga and Zebra mussels. Dedicated kayak parking is available for paddle boards and kayaks (both hard-sided and inflatable). The east shore offers a mostly undeveloped setting along the Carson Range foothills, with ample opportunities for paddling, fishing, and exploring. Propane grills are permitted at picnic sites, but charcoal and wood fires are prohibited.
