Lawson Creek Park offers convenient access to the Trent River, a large river (Stream Order 6) with an average flow of 707 cubic feet per second. The facility features two boat launches suitable for kayaks, canoes, and small motorboats, plus a courtesy dock that serves dual purposes as a fishing pier. With ample parking for approximately 20 vehicles and proximity to US Highway 17, this is an easily accessible launch point for paddlers throughout the region. Note that there are no restrooms on-site.
The Trent River in this area offers varied paddling conditions, from narrower, shallow sections ideal for kayakers to wider open water downstream. With an average velocity of 1.63 feet per second and a gentle slope of 1.7 feet per mile, the river is generally manageable for paddlers of varying skill levels. The Neuse River confluence is approximately 1.25 miles downstream from the launch. This site is part of the Brice's Creek Area recreational facilities managed through Recreation.gov, though reservations are not required.
