About This Access Site
Located near Yankton, South Dakota, the East Midway access site on Lower Lewis and Clark Lake offers a convenient boat launch for kayakers, canoeists, and recreational boaters. The site features a boat ramp with access to this popular 100-mile stretch of the Missouri River system, which straddles the Nebraska/South Dakota border below Gavins Point Dam. The recreation area is well-developed with multiple amenities including picnic facilities, flush toilets, drinking water, and a nearby visitor center with ranger staff available for information.

The privately-operated Lewis and Clark Resort and Marina provides additional services such as fuel, boat rentals, slip rentals, and lifejacket rentals, making this an ideal staging point for both day trips and longer expeditions. Paddlers can access the scenic Lower Lewis and Clark Lake waters, which offer calmer conditions compared to the free-flowing Missouri River upstream. Two nearby campgrounds (Green Island Primitive Camping and Pierson Ranch Camp) are located within 10 miles for those planning overnight trips.

Before visiting, check current facility status and any seasonal closures, as marina improvements have affected some boat ramp access in the past. The visitor center staff can provide up-to-date information about lake conditions and paddling routes in the area.
