Located near Yankton on Lower Lewis and Clark Lake, this access site offers boat ramp facilities for kayakers, canoeists, and motorboats. The area is part of the popular Lewis and Clark Recreation Area, which straddles the Nebraska/South Dakota border and provides access to this scenic reservoir created by Gavins Point Dam. The site includes a ranger station with staff on-site, picnic facilities, and nearby amenities including showers and potable water.
**Important Note:** The primary marina facilities at Lewis and Clark Resort and Marina, including the main boat ramp and slips, are currently closed for a major upgrade project extending through 2026. Contact the park directly at 800.710.2267 or lewis-Clark@state.sd.us before visiting to confirm current access options and available launch facilities at this location.
The Lower Lewis and Clark Lake offers relatively calm, reservoir-style paddling compared to the nearby Missouri National Recreational River. A scenic six-mile natural trail begins near the boat ramp area and follows the shoreline, providing additional recreation opportunities. Primitive camping is available at nearby Green Island and Pierson Ranch Camp for those planning extended visits.
