Little Bend Recreation Area

Little Bend Recreation Area provides boat access to the Missouri River's Narrows section near Lower Brule in Lyman County, South Dakota. The narrow boat ramp is located on the north end of the park and points downstream, making it suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and motorboats into this scenic stretch of river. Note that a **South Dakota park entrance license is required** to access the boat ramp.

The area offers more than just water access—two covered shelters overlook the Missouri River and can be reserved for group outings. Additional amenities include horseshoes, an archery range, and picnic facilities, making it a good base for a full day of recreation. The surrounding landscape features impressive bluffs and hills that frame the river, particularly striking from the high vantage point locals call "Sunset Point." This area is part of the larger Missouri River water trail system and connects to other recreation areas like Lake Sharpe upstream.
