**Location & Access:**
Live Oak Landing is a state-managed boat ramp located on Big Bay Creek off County Road 1461 on Edisto Island, Colleton County. To reach the ramp from Palmetto Road and Fishing Creek Drive, head down Palmetto Road and turn left on Oyster Row Lane—the ramp is approximately 0.7 miles down. The facility features a courtesy dock, boat ramp, and large gravel parking area.
**For Paddlers & Boaters:**
This access point provides excellent entry to Big Bay Creek, a scenic estuary that flows toward the South Edisto River. The landing is ideal for kayakers and canoeists exploring the ACE Basin—one of the largest undeveloped estuaries on the East Coast, encompassing the Ashepoo, Combahee, and Edisto rivers. Expect calm, tidal waters with scenic natural surroundings including live oaks and Spanish moss. The area is managed as part of the Ernest F. Hollings ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge and National Estuarine Research Reserve, making it excellent for wildlife viewing and nature paddling. An alternative paid launch option (Edisto Marina) is available farther down Big Bay Creek if needed. Warmer paddling conditions are best from March through August.
