Located in Sun, St. Tammany Parish, Lock No. 3 Launch provides access to the Pearl River Navigational Canal, part of a three-lock and dam system popular for day-use boating, fishing, and hunting. The facility features a concrete boat ramp with improved infrastructure, including docks and enhanced parking. Recent upgrades converted the ramp to a two-lane concrete facility with wooden docks and a dredged staging slip, making it more accommodating for multiple watercraft.
Paddlers and boaters should note that this launch provides access to the Pearl River system, which features locks and dams that require portaging in certain areas. The nearby Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Refuge, straddling Louisiana and Mississippi along the Pearl River, offers scenic paddling opportunities. Pool's Bluff, approximately 10 miles downstream near Bogalusa, serves as an alternative take-out point and features additional amenities including a walking trail, picnic area, and Veteran's Memorial. Use caution around low-head dams and the navigation sill in this area, and be prepared for varying water conditions typical of the river system.
