About This Access Site
**Location & Access:** The Lorain Boat Launch, locally known as "Hot Waters," is situated on Heider Ditch where it meets Lake Erie in Lorain, Ohio. This is the region's only free public boat launch, making it a popular access point for kayakers, canoeists, and recreational boaters heading out onto Lake Erie. The launch gets its nickname from its location between warm water discharge from a nearby power plant and the former ore docks area.

**Facilities & Planning:** The site offers restroom facilities during boating season. Note that beginning July 7, 2025, the City of Lorain will begin construction improvements to the launch, which may affect access and operations—contact local authorities or the City of Lorain for details on any temporary closures or changes. If you need year-round restroom access, Black River Landing (located at Black River Wharf Boat Launch) provides portable toilets and offers season passes ($70) that include access to other launches in the area.

**Best For:** This launch provides direct access to Lake Erie and serves paddlers and boaters of various experience levels. Given its location on open Lake Erie water, be prepared for variable conditions and check weather forecasts before launching, especially for kayakers and canoeists venturing far from shore.
