The Lower Skilak Lake boat ramp provides access to the middle section of Skilak Lake, a scenic glacial lake in the Kenai Peninsula. This launch site is located off the Skilak Lake Road, which can be accessed from the Sterling Highway at mileposts 58 or 75.2. The boat ramp is open seasonally from May through September, depending on road conditions.
Skilak Lake is a large, deep body of water that is generally calm in the mornings, making it well-suited for kayaking, canoeing, and motorized boating. Anglers can use the ramp to access the Middle Kenai River, which flows through the Kenai River National Wildlife Refuge. The nearest campground is the Hidden Lake Campground, located within 10 miles of the boat launch.
Paddlers and boaters should be prepared for changing weather conditions on the lake and be bear aware, as the surrounding area is prime wildlife habitat. There are no fees for launching or parking at this site, but it's important to check road and launch conditions before your trip, as access can be weather-dependent.
