About This Access Site
Madison Landing is a boat ramp providing access to the Ross R. Barnett Reservoir, a 33,000-acre impoundment of the Pearl River located in Ridgeland between Madison and Rankin counties. This is Mississippi's largest drinking water supply, making it a significant regional boating destination. The ramp is well-positioned for paddlers and boaters seeking to explore the reservoir's calm, protected waters.

The Pearl River upstream of this reservoir is a major waterway (Stream Order 8) with a drainage area of 8,325 square miles. However, at the reservoir itself, paddlers will experience flat water conditions ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and leisurely boating rather than current-driven paddling. The reservoir offers excellent opportunities for fishing, with specific regulations in place—anglers should note that only artificial lures with no more than 3 treble hooks (#2 or smaller) are permitted, and only one rod per person is allowed in certain areas.

For detailed information about facilities, amenities, fishing reports, wind conditions, and weather updates, visit the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District website or consult the interactive map of public and private boat launches around the reservoir. The Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home National Monument is also located nearby for those interested in combining recreation with historical exploration.
