About This Access Site
The Mardela Springs Boat Ramp provides the only public access to Barren Creek, a scenic tributary of the Nanticoke River in Wicomico County. The ramp features a hard landing with parking available, though there are no on-site restroom facilities. This intermediate to difficult paddling destination is best suited for experienced kayakers and canoeists comfortable with varying water conditions.

From the ramp, paddlers can expect approximately 4 miles of paddling to reach the Nanticoke River confluence, with an additional 1.5 miles to Vienna for those looking to extend their journey. Most trips in this area take 2.5 to 5 hours, making it suitable for half-day outings. The creek itself offers scenic views but lacks amenities along the waterway, so plan accordingly with supplies and water safety gear.

For current information on conditions, hours, and any access requirements, contact Wicomico County Parks and Recreation at their water access facilities page.
