About This Access Site
Marine Corps Ditch provides access to the Flint River in Albany, a major river system in south Georgia. The Flint River is a large stream order 7 waterway with significant flow averaging over 9000 cubic feet per second. This section of the river is located in the lower portion of the watershed, approximately 452 miles from the river mouth, making it a mature river system suitable for various watercraft.

The river in this area has a moderate gradient of 2.4 feet per mile average slope with an average velocity of 3.78 feet per second, indicating a steady current that is manageable for intermediate paddlers. The substantial drainage area of 7640 square miles ensures consistent water flow throughout most of the year. Boaters should be prepared for river conditions typical of large southeastern rivers, including typical current patterns and seasonal flow variations.

This access point serves the Albany area and provides entry to one of Georgia's important river systems. Paddlers should have experience with river conditions and be aware of the current and flow patterns typical of a large river in this region.
