About This Access Site
Located at Marion Cove Campground just north of Marion Reservoir Dam near Hillsboro, this boat ramp provides convenient access to Marion Reservoir and the Cottonwood River. The campground is a primitive facility without electrical hookups and offers two onsite boat ramps for launching. This is an excellent starting point for paddlers and boaters looking to fish or explore the reservoir, which is well-stocked with walleye, white bass, wipers, and channel catfish.

The Cottonwood River is a large waterway (Stream Order 6) with moderate current, averaging 2.86 feet per second and flowing through diverse terrain with an overall elevation drop of 861 feet across its 151-mile length. Paddlers should expect a river with substantial volume and steady flow typical of a major stream system. In addition to the boat ramp, Marion Cove Campground provides basic amenities including picnic tables and fire pits, making it a practical base for day trips or overnight excursions.
