About This Access Site
**Location & Access:** Hillsboro Cove is conveniently located off Highway 56 between Marion and Hillsboro, Kansas. From Marion, take Highway 56 west for about five miles, then turn right on Nighthawk Road to reach the facility. The boat ramp at the campground provides straightforward access to Marion Reservoir on the Cottonwood River.

**Facility & Recreation:** This Class A campground features a readily accessible boat ramp alongside waterfront camping sites with tables, grills, sun shelters, and electric hookups. The facility is reservable through Recreation.gov (620-382-101) and caters primarily to fishing, boating, camping, and hunting. The reservoir offers excellent fishing opportunities for channel catfish, walleye, white bass, wipers, and white crappie. The Corps of Engineers also maintains additional boat ramps around Marion Reservoir for expanded access options.

**Water Conditions:** The Cottonwood River is a large, flowing waterway (Stream Order 6) with an average flow of 491 cubic feet per second and moderate gradient. While this description focuses on Marion Reservoir access, be aware the Cottonwood is a substantial river system with consistent current. Kayakers and canoeists should be comfortable with moving water conditions and plan accordingly.

The campground offers 51 individual sites and one group camping area with a large shelter. The group camping area holds up to 80 people. The individual sites have tables, grills, sun shelters, electric hookups, and a boat ramp. Natural Features
Completed in 1968, Marion Reservoir encompasses 6,200 acres of water surrounded by 6,000 acres of public lands.

The surrounding expanse of forest provides visitors with endless recreational activities, set against the backdrop of the sparkling lake.
