Marks

The Marks boat ramp provides public access to the Coldwater River in Quitman County, located near the town of Marks in northwest Mississippi. This is a major river system (stream order 8) with substantial flow averaging nearly 3,000 cubic feet per second, making it suitable for motorboats, canoes, and kayaks. The river's average velocity of 4.3 feet per second and 2.6 ft/mile gradient indicate moderate current conditions typical of a mature river system.

Paddlers should be prepared for the characteristics of a large, flowing river rather than a gentle flatwater paddling environment. With a drainage area of 1,876 square miles and 170+ miles in total length, the Coldwater River offers extended paddling opportunities through northwest Mississippi. The Coldwater River National Wildlife Refuge, located approximately 5 miles south near Crowder, provides additional scenic paddling and wildlife viewing opportunities in the surrounding area.
